Where is the Palm Pixi?

Palm PixiThe WebOS is literally paving the path for Palm’s phones; and it is no surprise, the OS is well made, intuitive and fun to use. Currently the Palm Pre is the only device available locally that uses the WebOS, the other WebOS phone, the Pixi, has yet to be launched in Europe. So there are no Palm Pixi deals in the UK for now.

About the New Phone

The Palm Pixi has been around for a while now and people have been looking forward to this phone. It’s small, compact and looks easy to carry around (it is); all the while, it has a lot of excellent functions and features that make it very usable. This would make it a decent smart phone, but what we have not gotten to is how it looks.

The Pixi looks astoundingly cool. The form is very smooth and has a very good flow, each curve of the device is cut and shaped to add to its cuteness. The colors of the device and texture of the plastic is both elegant and hardy, giving the device a very post-modern vibe.

Specs and More

A review of the Palm Pixi would not be complete without mentioning the amazing work done in making the full QWERTY keyboard. It is easy to use. That should very well sum it up, but it does not mention how small the actual keyboard is or how evenly spaced each button is. Despite the hardware limitations Palm managed to make a very ergonomically functional design.

The rest of the specs sound mid to low tier smart phone; a 2.63 inch capacitive touch screen, a 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7627 processor, a 2 mega pixel camera with LED flash, micro USB, Bluetooth, etc. But factor in the fact that this phone is only 55 x 111 x 10.85 mm, then you have an amazing spec sheet.

The only things missing from this phone is a microSD card slot and WiFi support. It does have 8GB of internal storage though.

Palm Pixi to Target a Wide Range of Users

Palm PixiA few months back, Palm Pre was released by Palm with a brand new operating system in a bid to help Palm ameliorate its losses. Although the sales of Palm Pre have been healthy, but certainly they need to take much more steps to reach substantial results. As a lighter and cheaper version of Palm Pre, Palm Pixi is set to be launched on October 20. Palm Pixi is targeted for a broader range of users, primarily attracting young users and female users due to the lighter and slimmer dimensions of Palm Pixi. The new smartphone series by Palm is also much more attractive in design than the earlier models, which could also play a role in attracting smartphone users, which are more likely to get attracted to the BlackBerry Storm 2, expected to be released around the same time in October.

The expected lower price can really play a pivotal role in the success of Palm Pixi against all odds. Palm is emphasizing on the web based functions of the phone while marketing it, realizing that social networking and the entertainment and informative activities related to it are really popular among all kinds of mobile phone and smartphone users, particularly the youth, which is why Palm Pixi is hoping to attract young people particularly. The Palm Synergy feature is one of the most convenient features of the operating system, which can bring together different online email, social networking and instant messaging accounts on a single platform in the phone.

With its slim dimensions, attractive design, light weight, attractive Palm webOS features and hopefully a low price, Palm Pixi can prove to be a very strong option for users looking for a quality smartphone. However, many users will not find the absence of the Wi-Fi connectivity in the smartphone comfortable, and may end up looking for other phones, but if that does not top your priority list, maybe you could end up considering Palm Pixi seriously yourself.
