Just as the Nokia Surge was released in the USA nearly a month ago, the rumour mill brought us some news in the form of another phone to be released by Nokia. The Nokia 6760 Slide is said to be a European version of the Surge. The only improvement in the Nokia 6760 Slide when compared to the Surge is the presence of a 3 megapixel snapper, as opposed to the 2 megapixel snapper which came with the Surge. The absence of any network branding whatsoever is another difference between the Nokia 6760 Slide and the Surge.
The Nokia 6760 slide runs on the Symbian OS and slides sideways to reveal the full QWERTY keyboard, which is extremely good for typing messages quickly on the go. There is support for 3.6 Mbps HSDPA as well. Quad-bad GSM support is also available in addition to the normal connectivity options, which include microUSB, Bluetooth and a 2.5 mm headset jack.
The AT&T Navigator is not used in the Nokia 6760 slide, as is expected. Instead, Nokia Maps makes its presence felt. There are a large number of messaging softwares on the phone in the form of Nokia Messaging, Windows Live IM and Google Talk. Social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter can be accessed extremely easily. The presence of these social and messaging apps clearly shows that the Nokia 6760 slide is being positioned as a social – centric device.
The specifications sheet of the Nokia 6760 slide also includes the 128 MB internal memory, which can be propped up to a maximum of 8 GB via the microSD memory card slot and a FM radio.
The Nokia 6760 Slide is set to be released in the current quarter for an estimated retail price of 199 euros before taxes and subsidies. The phone will initially be made available in black, but red and white colour schemes will come about in the course of time, though these colour schemes might not be available to all markets.
