The Apple iPod has to be one of the most innovative gadgets to be released since 2000. With it, Apple once again became a major player in the electronics industry. While the company was still struggling to keep its iMac devices up to par with the latest personal computers (and had a moderate degree of success), it was not until the launch of this innovative digital music player did Apple set a firm foot on the path that led it to become the giant that it is today.
Tom Fadell did not originally design the iPod for Apple. In fact, he had been in and out of some few companies before he finally landed in Apple. In many ways, Apple was pretty smart to see the potential of the device and Steve Jobs has enjoyed their decision since.
From 2001 until 2008, Tom was the head of Apple’s iPod and iPhone division; a position wherein Fadell contributed greatly to the company. It was not until the end of 2008 that he and his wife decided that they should focus more on their family. Fadell resigned from his position and took a post as an adviser to Steve Jobs.
After nine years, Fadell is finally cutting off his ties with Apple in order to pursue his own goals. According to Fadell, his aim now is to support companies that are focusing on the development of green engineering. It is a big ambition and he deserves all the praise in the world for choosing his own way and seeking ways to contribute to the greater good.
The Apple iPad is launching in a few days and without the iPod developer with them, Apple’s celebration of their latest touch screen wonder will have one less major celebrant.
