The folks at Engadget have been able to try out the Apple iPad and from what they have seen; there is plenty to look forward to with the device.
One of the very first things they noticed is the speed of the iPad. Thanks to the A4 1GHz processor inside the tablet, applications and websites pop out smooth and quick. Provided that you have got a fast internet connection, you can achieve desktop like performance on the browser. With the 1024 x 768 pixels of resolution, users no longer have to make do with the cut up web pages as they appear on small mobile phone screens.
On the bad side, they found that the iPad was a pretty hefty device. Though not as cumbersome as a net book, but holding the device with just one hand is not ideal, looks like apple designed this one to be rested on your lap when in use. Another major drag is the lack of multi tasking. As stated, the processor does a great job or running the device –it’s a waste of good hardware if you cannot multitask on such a good gadget.
Another comment they found was that the on screen virtual keyboard did not work as smoothly as originally demonstrated, but it is still pretty impressive. Lastly, no flash support, while this is hardly a major factor, it does make web browsing a little less fun.
We are expecting that Apple would later upgrade the Os to be compatible with flash. Currently, the device uses the iPhone OS 3.2. Hopefully, the iPad will be compatible with version 4.0 when it comes out.
Overall, the iPad has a lot of factors in which it can improve upon. With a few patches and software updates, the iPad will certainly be worth having around.
